Strategy and Policy Core

EDP 5100 Foundations: Strategy and Policy in Action (3 Credit Hours)
After a brief review of the strategy and policy development process, this course deals with the organizational environment as it relates to strategy and policy, as well as the effects of strategy and policy initiatives. Applications of strategy and policy are reviewed for their effectiveness.

EDP 5110 Outcomes: Strategy and Policy in Education Systems (3 Credit Hours)
This course focuses on strategy and policy in the context of educational organizations. Various methods of strategic and policy development and integration are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the context of strategy and policy initiatives and their success or failure.

PHIL 5423 Foundations of Knowledge (3 Credit Hours)
Examines the historian's methodology and the means by which we come to establish historical fact. Considers history as an instructional tool with special emphasis on its varying roles in contemporary societies.

PHIL 5844 History of Science (3 Credit Hours)
Explores the development of the scientific method and process by which science explains the physical realities of our world. Key developments in the scientific disciplines and their impact on human society are considered. Introduces emerging trends in scientific thought and discovery.

Society and Education Core

EDP 5200 History of Education (3 Credit Hours)
This course traces the development of educational systems in various societies throughout history. Particular emphasis is placed on education systems in ancient China, the Middle East, and Europe. The development of the US public education system is also traced.

EDP 5210 Education Systems and Societal Development (3 Credit Hours)
This course examines the underlying philosophical motivations from which a society develops an education system. Emphasis is placed on historical movements in society's that have chosen to create outstanding education systems.

EDP 5220 Innovation in Education (3 Credit Hours)
This course investigates innovations that have influenced education systems at strategic levels. Key topics include innovations in education systems, methods, technologies, and priorities. Historical innovations are examined in light of contemporary trends, and contemporary innovations are examined in light of both history and future applications.

EDP 5230 Socioeconomic Foundations of Education (3 Credit Hours)
This course examines the impact of education on a society's economic welfare, and the resulting strategy and policy implications. Analysis of educational priorities in light of economic development is emphasized. Key topics include the school as an agent of social development, interest groups, the impact of teaching, and education's role in the economic stratification of societies.

EDP 5240 Comparative Education (3 Credit Hours)
This course provides an overview of varying approaches to providing education diverse cultures. Education systems in the developed and developing world are reviewed. Educational methods and priorities are compared as to their relationships with the societies in which they exist.

EDP 5250 Education and a Free Society (3 Credit Hours)
This course considers the role played by schools in an open society. Key topics include curriculum development, instructional options, and change events in education systems within the framework of a democracy. Emphasis is placed on the investigation into education's proper role, obligations and prohibitions, and emerging trends in education.

Capstone Project

EDP 5300 Education Strategy and Policy Capstone I (3 Credit Hours)
Learners work with a member of the Ames Christian Faculty to design a capstone project, a policy paper that addresses issues presented in MEd courses and provides strategy and policy initiatives.

EDP 5310 Education Strategy and Policy Capstone II (3 Credit Hours)
Learners work with a member of the Ames Christian Faculty to complete a capstone project policy paper that addresses education strategy and policy issues and to present that paper online to the Ames Christian MEd community and guests.
